| An order for a design of the first in USSR speed-boat for river flotillas was secured in 1920. And a test of GANT-1, (a speed-boat of one ton displacement, with an engine of 160 horsepower and making 75 km per hour) has already been carried out in following summer on the Moskva. Streamlined modifications followed this model. On the 29th of June, 1928, a new task was given: to develop a new, more perfect boat with two domestically-produced engines and two torpedo-tubes. It was G-5 (planning boat 5). And a year later, 13th June, 1929, a new model of GANT-5 has been got under way. Finished boats GANT-5 were forwarded to Sevastopol on the 15th of February, 1933, but the tests were delayed till the end of December. Basing on test results, G-5 was found as the best motor torpedo-boat from the whole of armament and it was put into production. Sum total of produced G-5 motor torpedo-boats was 200. |
